GRAND PRISMATIC SPRING
Temperature 147-188°F --- 250x380 feet.
This is the largest hot spring in Yellowstone and the third largest in the world.
The Famed Hayden Expedition in 1871 named this spring because of its beautiful coloration, and artist Thomas Moran made watercolor sketches depicting its rainbow-like colors. The sketches were thought to be exaggerated until geologist A.C. Peale returned in 1878 to verify them. Deep blue center, pale blue edge, green algae on the shallow edge and a scalloped rim of yellow to orange.
This unique image is fused directly onto a specially treated, rigid piece of Aluminum.
